MELVILLE, USA: The North American Components business of Arrow Electronics Inc. recently announced a new design services and IP access model to integrate ARM industry-standard processors, in the Altera Stratix FPGA series and HardCopy ASIC series devices, through Arrow's Custom Logic Solutions group.
"Arrow is proud to be the first to offer a wide array of ARM processors into the FPGA marketplace," said David West, vice president of engineering and new business development at Arrow. "Arrow customers can now deploy ARM processors consistently across FPGA, ASIC and foundry platforms for prototyping and high-volume production uses."
This model extends Arrow's recently announced support of the Cortex(TM)-M1 processor and ARM7 and ARM9E processor families in ASIC and foundry, by enabling prototype and production application of these processors in Altera's Stratix FPGA and HardCopy ASIC devices. In this design services model, Arrow will develop a customer-specified ARM technology-based subsystem and integrate it into the customers' design. The resulting design will be instantiated in a HardCopy device, or encrypted and delivered for customer use on encryption-capable Stratix devices.
"For customers who want to incorporate mainstream ARM processors into their Stratix or HardCopy designs, Arrow offers a unique solution," said Chris Balough, senior director of software, embedded and DSP marketing at Altera. "The combination of ARM technology and Arrow design services promises to provide an excellent combination of flexibility and time to market."
"The agreement with Arrow enables system-on-a-chip developers to speed their time to market by prototyping ARM processor-based designs in an FPGA before production of an FPGA, ASIC or foundry vehicle, based on real-time business needs," said Eric Schorn, vice president of marketing, Processor Division, ARM. "Using the advanced encryption capability of Altera's Stratix devices, Arrow's Custom Logic Solutions group provides a foundation for linking IP protection and verification schemes in the FPGA."
IP access and design services that incorporate ARM industry-standard processors into Altera Stratix and Hardcopy devices are available immediately to North American customers through Arrow's Custom Logic Solutions group. For more information, please contact Arrow at asic@arrow.com.
