THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A technology

instituted owned by spiritual guru Mata Amritanandamayi has successfully

developed and deployed a new Wi-Fi based telematics system for Konkan

Railway's skybus in Goa.

Amrita Research Labs (ARL), the R&D wing of the Coimbatore based Amrita

Vishwa Vidyapeetham, launched its product for the 1.6 km test track of the

skybus in Goa's Madgaon.

The technology is expected to significantly benefit state transport
corporations, fleet operators and railways in vehicle tracking, fleet

scheduling and traffic management, a statement from the mutt headquarters in

Kerala said. Telematics is the application of wireless and mobile

communication technologies in vehicular electronics.

Big cities and metros worldwide are exploring alternative approaches aided
by new technologies to reduce traffic congestion. Until recently, Telematics

was restricted mostly to aiding navigation in luxury cars. The development

of Wi-Fi based Telematics by ARL promises to make it a viable and affordable

alternative for deployment in public transport and railways.

Additional features include security, voice and video communication,

internet access, public announcements, dynamic display of vehicle routes and

synchronization.
