Arena Multimedia has announced plans to invest Rs 5 Crore in R&D and development of new courses. The company also plans to expand into China and other countries in SouthEast Asia.

BANGALORE: Arena Multimedia is planning to invest up to Rs.5 crore for developing new courses and R&D. The company also announced that it is considering to enter countries such as China, Vietnam and those in South East Asia this year.

"We have a franchisee model and hence the investments are for new course development and R&D efforts, and this is between Rs 3 and 5 crore," said Arena Multimedia, vice-president, Sudhir Mathur.

"We expect to spread across to these geographies, through the franchisee route," Mathur said. He also mentioned that Arena was targeting a billing of about Rs 70 crore during the current year.

Some of the forthcoming initiatives planned by Arena, are in line with the backdrop of CII’s theme of the year 2002-03 as the 'Year of Multimedia' in order to sharpen focus on the Indian multimedia industry. Arena, under an industry initiative, SIGMMA, would host an international conference on multimedia and design in September in Mumbai.

In addition, Arena is also planning to launch a multimedia training programme for the masses, which would be targeted at housewives and working professionals in the age bracket of over 35 years. The short-course would have duration of two to four weeks and would be introduced across the country by August, Mathur said.

Arena recently launched a certificate course in film studies at its Arena Animation Academy located in Mumbai. The course is part of an effort by the company to "backward integrate" on the multimedia front, Mathur pointed out.
