Applied Materials names Aninda Moitra India head

BANGALORE, INDIA: Applied Materials, Inc., manufacturing solutions supplier for the semiconductor, display and solar industries, announced on Tuesday the appointment of Aninda Moitra as the country president for its Indian operations.

Moitra would be reporting to Manfred Kerschbaum, senior vice-president, chief of staff, Applied Materials. His responsibilities include overseeing alignment, co-ordination and execution of Applied's business, operational and strategic activities in the country.

Kerschbaum, joined by Randhir Thakur, executive vice-president and general manager of Applied's Silicon Systems Group, commented: "The India market is a growth priority for Applied, particularly in the solar space. Much of the product engineering design and software development for our business groups is done in India, and it is critical that we continue to drive a vision and strategy for success here."

"With Aninda's experience, background, and track record, he is well-qualified to provide the leadership to achieve this goal."

Moitra has been with Applied Materials for more than 15 years. Most recently, he was vice-pesident and account general manager in the Silicon Systems Group.

"The vibrant economy in India is propelling changes in the energy and semiconductor sectors," said Moitra.

"This is resulting in positive inflection points in both the semiconductor and solar industries in India and offers opportunities for growth. Applied Materials is focused on using our core competencies to help India achieve success in these markets."
