By : |June 22, 2020 0

Unlike the previous 30 times, this year, Apple’s WWDC has a new avatar! The developer event will kick off today with a keynote speech at 10:00 AM PDT (10:30 PM IST). It will be an online event owing to the coronavirus pandemic. And like always, it is free for all and everyone can watch the event on Apple’s website and YouTube channel. WWDC 2020 will happen from June 22-26.

The “Platforms State of the Union” session will start at 2:30 AM IST, June 23. Also, it will post videos of the session at 10:30 PM IST every day.

WWDC is an important conference for all tech developers out there. Because every year, Apple gives a sneak-peek into the future of iOS apps. This year, too, there are many speculations and as reports have stated, the year brings major changes on the software side of things.

What changes can we expect this year?

1. Apple doesn’t usually announce hardware changes at WWDC. But this year, there is a possibility that Apple will confirm ARM-powered Mac computing devices. Could this be a blow for Intel? We think so! The name of the project is Kalamata and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. will possibly make the chips. So, a big business loss for Intel.

2. Next up, Apple is also considering allowing iOS users to change default apps on the platform with third-party options. Meaning, iPhone users may be able to set third-party apps like Chrome, Mozilla etc as default apps on iPhones. Similarly, users can set Google Maps as default apps instead of Apple apps.

3. The biggest speculation yet is that iOS may become iPhoneOS. Even if this is just that, speculation, it might be good to see all products have a streamlines name.

4. Further, Apple will likely present iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, watchOS 7, and macOS 10.16. It will also likely announce new iMac, Apple TV 4K, and Apple AirTags.

New Products announcement at WWDC

1. “AirPods Studio”: The company is reportedly working on over-ear headphones. Deriving its name from AirPods, the device might be priced at $349 (around Rs 26,000). The AirPods Studio could feature touch gestures, active noise cancellation (ANC), and wireless-pairing. There could also be a pair of premium on-ear headphones dubbed AirPods X from Apple.

2. Apple Tags: Apple is also reportedly planning to launch Apple Tags. It will be a tiny physical Bluetooth tracker that can help iPhone users track their personal-items such as luggage bags, wallets, backpacks, and more. This announcement may also be a part of WWDC 2020. The tile-like tracking device could allow tracking your belongings using Find My App on the iPhone.

The WWDC 2020 runs virtually through till June 26, and there will be more than 100 engineering sessions. Further, there will be more than 1,000 Apple engineers on hand in the virtual developer forums. We are very excited about the Apple Design Awards.

WWDC’s significance resides in the fact that this is not just a peek at the next line of software for Apple’s line-up of products, but also the company’s close interaction with the developer community. So, the above-mentioned points could be some of the key announcements to look forward to at WWDC 2020.
