NEW YORK, USA: How true is the hacker group Antisec claim that it has obtained millions of Apple users IDs?

This million dollar question has come up after Apple on Thursday said it had never provide the FBI with user details. The hacking group has been claiming that the IDs were obtained from a FBI agents laptop.

"The FBI has not requested this information from Apple, nor have we provided it to the FBI or any organization," said Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris.

Earlier this week, the hacker group Antisec claimed to have obtained 12 million of these identifiers, raising privacy alarm bells among technology bloggers. Developers use the IDs, which are known as UDIDs, to track users across apps. The approach has raised privacy concerns because the IDs are tied to usage data that privacy advocates argue could identify people.

Many app developers have databases of UDIDs, which means an organization could obtain them without receiving them directly from Apple.

On Tuesday, the FBI said the it had "no evidence indicating that an FBI laptop was compromised or that the FBI either sought or obtained the data."
