Apple has hired Vijay Karunamurthy, a former YouTube executive to lead its video efforts, reports Bloomberg. Karunamurthy, who had worked on early versions of YouTube and later founded “Nom”, a foodies app apparently joined Cupertino giant in April, the same month his Nom app disappeared from the App Store and his company’s website went offline.

The report, however, says that Apple hasn't acquired Nom and merely the founder has been hired. Also, there is no confirmation if other people from Nom will join Karunamurthy at Apple or not.

Barely a year-old, Nom had a lot of visual appeal for users. Besides an Instagram-like social function for sharing and commenting on food photos, there was a live-streaming button too to talk about food. Karunamurthy is expected to help expand social and video features for Apple by using is team’s expertise in social networking and live-streaming.

A few months back, Apple hired another former YouTube alum, Shiva Rajaraman to work on it's video and music efforts.
