BANGALORE, INDIA: With the launch of the new version of iPad 2, Apple has decided to slash the price of the first generation iPad, targetting the customers who look for the gadget at a cheaper rate.

Apple said that six original models of iPad will be sold $100 cheaper and the details are available at Apple Store online's Special Deals section.

According to Apple Store, the 16 GB iPad with Wi-Fi flash drive capacity is sold for $399, while the 32 GB version is available for $499, and 64 GB for $599. All these models have Bluetooth 2.1 and EDR technology.

The 3G versions of the same configuration are sold at $529, $629 and $729 respectively.

At the iPad 2 launch, the appearance of CEO Steve Jobs, who is on medical leave, had made a bigger splash.

“Our competitors are looking at this like it's the next PC market. That is not the right approach to this ... These are post-PC devices that need to be easier to use than a PC, more intuitive,” said Jobs.

While the new version of iPad is sold at the same rate as the first version, this decision to subsidize iPad 1 may help Apple strengthen its market and also pose a challenge to competitors.
