Speaking about the unique nature of R&D at Cadence, Rahul said, "Unlike research centers of other companies, cadence looks at R&D at two levels. Some of our India R&D works on co-owning of products, while a considerable percentage of the R&D is fully developed products out of India".

Another unique nature of Cadence's business is its close collaboration with customers very early in the lifecycle of product development. Rahul explained, "Even at the stage of choosing the right technology platforms, Cadence helps companies by having them as beta partners, so we can grow with each other, and make sure that their business goals are in sync with our product plans."

Cadence, in recent weeks has realised that a combines software and hardware platform is the way to go forward. "The iPhone to a certain extent has proved to the development world that the historic way of identifying a platform, making the software layer sit on it, followed by hardware integration is passe. At the end of the day, users are least concerned about the platform that works in the background. Their concern is with the apps they can use and play around with. We at Cadence have realised this and have formulated a vision statement which promotes this new form of development", he said.

He also said, "IPs are gaining prominence like never before. A platform which helps companies in choosing, creating and integrating tools is something which Cadence believes will be widely accepted. In other words, it is some sort of an 'open integration platform'".
