While launching Compuware's new website performance benchmarks here on Wednesday, Dotel further said that the APM market has a huge growth potential in emerging markets like India and China, as the world's business focus is turning towards the Asia Pacific.

“In India, the APM market is extremely small and is just $15-16 million today. However, since there is a large number of websites in India which are frequently used by massive number of customers for online banking, e-shopping, etc, the companies are duty-bound to give the best user experience to the customer,” said Dotel.

“Compuware's new benchmarking system provides companies with valuable competitive and market-leader insight into website performance and helps websites streamline their operations and thereby accelerate growth.”

Benchmarking is about comparing and tracking web or mobile site performance against competitors in an industry and Internet leaders and is a first step in determining whether the web or mobile site performance is supporting the business goals and meeting the customers’ expectations.

“The prevalent benchmarking tools are people-based and its effectiveness is very low. Customers are so impatient that if an application fails mid-way during a transaction, he will just go away and find better alternatives. To avoid this kind of a risk, you need to have APM tools in place so that you can prevent you customer from going away and losing a potential business,” Dotel said.

Benchmarking is a comparative measurement approach that helps companies compete more effectively and make better decisions about investments in optimization projects. Compuware’s Gomez Benchmarks provide a comprehensive st of global independent web and mobile performance metrics, Dotel claimed.

The new Indian benchmarks by Compuware for Banking, Brokerage, eCommerce, Exchanges, Insurance, Media, Portals, Telecom and Travel measure the performance of the home page of the websites of selected companies in each industry.

In select industries, Compuware also launched new “Last Mile” benchmarks that measure website performance based on the end users’ experience at the desktop.

“Because benchmarking helps companies better understand the connection between website performance, business results, and improved process discipline, it has become a valuable tool in today’s competitive online marketplace among leading international companies,” said Neeraj Dotel.
