APAC server revenue up 12.9% in H1 '05

NEW DELHI: The server market revenue for Asia/Pacific grew 12.9 percent in the first half of 2005 as against last year, according to a Gartner report. The Q2 growth alone stood at 15.8 percent YOY.



China, Korea and Australia, the largest server markets together contributed 67 percent of total Asia/Pacific server revenue in this second quarter, said Annie Chung, principal analyst, enterprise systems, Gartner.



Chung said the telecommunications, government and education sectors led market growth in China. Server revenue grew 22.1 percent to US$601 million.



South Korea was second to China in Asia/Pacific, with 14.9 percent market share and a quarterly revenue growth of 5.5 percent compared to the same quarter last year. "Demand from manufacturers and SMEs is contributing to healthy growth for the x86-platform," Chung

said. S Korea's e-government initiative is also expected to drive server demand.

In Australia, Q2 server revenue grew 13.3 percent year on year, with strong demand in the enterprise market and government, as well as in the manufacturing, energy and education sectors.
