The reversal of fortunes of Andhra Pradesh CEO Nara Chandrababu Naidu at assembly elections today made way for Congress-TRS alliance to form the government. The nine-year TDP rule saw the state positioned at the knowledge capital of the country with IT leading the way. However, the electorate said ‘alt+ctrl+del’ with their votes going against the man who gave Hyderabad its reputation as the most preferred destination for IT.

The fact that basic development of the masses was neglected in Naidu’s policies targeted at greater good of fewer people proved to his undoing. His favored IT sectors decidedly did not resurrect him at the hustings.

Now, with Congress at the helm of affairs the priorities might change but there will certainly be no reversal of the development in IT is the general sentiment of IT industry. In fact, the task for the chief minister-in-waiting is cut out as he has to do better than his predecessor and take the initiatives further with his speed and dynamism.

"It is the same administration which works under various governments. It all depends on the ministers who form the government," said Dr S K Mathur the Executive Director of MIS & IT in Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC). APSRTC automated its fleet operations under the State’s e-governance initiatives. Ultimately IT has to impact the lives of the masses only then it becomes e-governance and has achieved its objective, he added. Elaborating, on the various such initiatives taken by the state, Mathur said be it e-seva or AP online is still far from e-governance.

Kedarnath Udiyavar, President of Hyderabad Software Exporters’ Association (Hysea), also heading the engineering center of Polaris Software Lab Limited in Hyderabad, echoed, "No government can afford to neglect IT," he said. Explaining that a change of government may result in a shift of priorities he emphasized that economics always wins over politics. "And a global opportunity of the magnitude has to be simply snapped up."

However, Naidu does come in for praise for the good work that he has carried out in the past for promoting IT and Biotechnology in Hyderabad. "Hyderabad IT would have lost a godfather in CBN (Short for Chandra Babu Naidu). The CBN legacy had made Cyberabad a brand name and has put Hyderabad on the world map. He had laid the foundation for a momentum, which will continue with or without him. Hyderabad will be effected not by what happens at the Assembly but what happens in the corporate boardrooms in US and Europe. The market forces are greater than governments and will decide Hyderabad’s merits without CBN. CBN has provided Hyderabad with a foundation to build on for the private investors, that will certainly build a global IT and ITES industry on it," commented, Xavier Augustin, President and CEO, Y-Axis Overseas Careers.

Sanjiv Gupta, CEO of BodhTree Consulting Limited, points out: "As long as progress and development continue unhindered, any party ruling is acceptable. Knowledge of the problems shadowing us is no rocket science, prioritization of activities and efforts is. Congress and TDP are just names -- what matters eventually is the state of our State!"

MLN Acharyulu, President and Managing Director, Qualcore Logic Pvt. Ltd., said, "We do not foresee any change of policy hindering progression. We expect the new government would continue to support IT and all other industries to drive growth and ensure that Andhra Pradesh remain competitive in all aspects".

Sri Myneni, CEO, Knoah Inc, expressed " We expect that the new Government will continue to support the momentum and sharpen the competitive advantages Hyderabad has gained over the years. In the next 90 days if Congress can prove that geo politically Hyderabad will continue to be a sound place to invest and there will not be any reversal to IT policies which has gained considerable momentum it will draw applause from people across the industry"

As it is known, industry bodies and entrepreneurs go great lengths to project that they have no specific political leaning and whoever ensures good business environment is welcome — Congress is no exception.
