The central government has approved eight such zones but all along the proposed Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor. The three NMIZ has been proposed to be established at Zaheerabad (Medak district), Chittoor and Ramayapatnam port in Prakasam district.

The State's Industries Commissioner Rajat Kumar said, "The proposals have been sent to the centre for approval. These NMIZs would be developed as fully industrial cities with each zone having a minimum of 5,000 hectares area."

Only 30 to 40 percent of the area will be given for manufacturing and the rest of the area will be for other civic amenities. "The idea is to have completely Greenfield areas and not existing townships. The idea is to create new cities and new livelihood opportunities," explained Kumar.
