BANGALORE, INDIA: It must be déjà vu for the Indian National Congress. After being under an attack by Anonymous, the online hacktivists network, this May, it seems to have been targeted again by the same group.

Advertisment

Anonymous had tweeted from AnonOpsIndia @opindia_revenge Tuesday afternoon, inviting users and public to join its 'fight against corruption' by using two hashtags — #OpIndia and #OpRiseINDIA.

The tweet read, "Join us in our fight, Join #OpIndia #OpRiseINDIA > http://pastehtml.com/view/c6k8bn4pe.html … … #Anonymous." (sic)

Upon clicking the link, one could see a message: "People of India. We are Anonymous and we have pledged to fight Corruption in OpRiseIndia. We need your help in protesting against Corporations, Political Parties and corrupt media. You can join us in the DDoS attacks that we are launching against corrupted targets." (sic)

"Today We are Targeting: Indian National Congress," was highlighted in the next line in bold, red letters.

"To help us simply click on the button "Go to Attack Page" (everything is set for you), and click "Start Attack"," flowed the instructions, followed by a 'Attack Page' button, presumably one-touch.

Towards the end, it also carried a disclaimer, "Taking part in DDoS is illegal, however this is a revolution and when 100s or 1000s of people are attacking, they cant come after all of us. Be brave and take part." (sic)

Advertisment

When we tried accessing the AICC website within an hour after the tweet with the open threat, we could see this message: "The connection has timed out. The server at aicc.org.in is taking too long to respond."

Was it down because of the Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack by Anonymous? If so, was it with people's support, as in Anna Hazare's protests?

We are waiting to know, Anonymous.
