Anifest India 2009 postponed due to Swine flu

MUMBAI, INDIA: Anifest India 2009, the much awaited annual animation event organized by The Animation Society of India (TASI), has been postponed indefinitely, on the wake of the increasing A (H1N1) (swine flu) cases.

This year's four day festival was slated to begin from August 13 till August 16, but TASI's managing committee members made the last minute postponement decision during their meetings recently.

Following the decision, TASI has informed all the participants coming for this event from India and abroad to stay back and wait till further notice.

While speaking to CyberMedia News, TASI's secretary Ranjit Singh said, “It's an unfortunate decision to postpone the Anifest for indefinite period but we are not saying that the festival has been canceled.”

He said the organization would review the situation after a month or so and would announce new dates for the festival.

Since 2005, TASI has been organizing the animation festival every year. TASI is a non-profit trust registered with the Government of India and works in creating awareness of the animation medium and allied arts in India.

It was formed by group of 8-10 animation industry experts in 2001and today it has about 2000 members that include young animation students, animators, animation experts, technicians along with animation studios, software and technology companies.
