BANGALORE, INDIA: “Android is a potential game changer for mobile application developer. When cool applications were created by iPhone, I used to think when I will get to do it. With Android you can do that. And it is easy too as it uses a familiar platform, Java,” these words of excitement are from Rohit Bhardwaj, principal software engineer, Kronos Incorporated.

Android is a first complete open source and free mobile platform, which runs at runtime using core libraries and Dalvik Virtual Machine, he said while taking a session at Spark IT 2010.

Talking about Android Set-up, he said it requires JDK 1.5 OR 1.6, Eclipse, Android Software Developer Kit, Eclipse Plug-in and BiRT.

Bhardwaj also touched upon Android Tools that include Android Emulator, De-bug monitor service (DDMS), Android Debug Bridge(ADB).

Elaborating on Android Intents, he said it is an abstract description of an operation to be performed. It, he said, contains action and data. The intent gets re-solved in two ways, explicit and implicit.
