Google does send email notifications whenever a new device accesses your account but sometimes it’s too late by the time we check our emails. However, Android users will now get a notification if a new device is added to their Google account, replacing the email that was reactively archived before reading.
Google says the new notification system makes users four times as likely to review their accounts compared to the email, which means a breached account could be rapidly identified and save you a bunch of time on the phone with your bank trying to defeat an automated system to get to a human.
The new notification will ask, "Did you just sign in?" If the answer is yes, you can just dismiss the notification. If not, tap the "Review account activity" button to check out the details of the new device.
This gives you the opportunity to change your password or add two-factor authorization if you're worried someone else has accessed your account.
The feature is rolling out gradually, and Google notes that it make take over two weeks for some people to see the change.
