Andhra to have another Genome Valley Park

HYDERABAD: With the entire space of biotech cluster in Hyderabad almost sold out, the Andhra Pradesh government has allotted an additional 300 acres of land in Medak district for the construction of another Genome Valley Park.

Revealing the third phase expansion plan of Genome Valley after inaugurating Bio Asia 2006, here today, J Geetha Reddy, minister for Sugar and Industries said that the Andhra Pradesh government will act as a facilitator for biotechnical industry.

Reddy also announced that the state received $22.7 millions since 2002, courtesy the Genome Valley Park. ``The investments are likely to reach $136 millions in the next five years,'' added Reddy.

Genome Valley is the first-one-of-its-kind biotech cluster in India for life science research, training and manufacturing activities.

It houses institutions like Indian Institute of Chemical technology (IICT), National Institute for Nutrition (NIN), Centre for DNA fingerprinting & Diagnostics (CDFD) and Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology(CCMB).
