BANGALORE, INDIA: 'Three Idiots', an inspiring tale of three IIT graduates. But, do these stories happen in real life?

Yes they do, if the Bhuvaneshwar-based start-up RoboticWares is taken as an example. Of course, much before the idea of the movie was germinated.

Meeting under one roof of KIIT University, the 'three idiots' of this story - Gautam Kumar, Gaurav Srivastava and Kushal Nahata, hatched the plan of starting their entrepreneur venture, RoboticWares.

Though they come from different backgrounds, and with different ideas, there was a common thing that tied them together — the passion to do what you love and bring about a change. And what they loved was robotics, science, coding that can lead to innovative solutions, such as their SMS alert solution for gas leakage.

This system can save a number of lives who fall victims to gas bursts in the country, as the sensor installed in the kitchen would send an alarm through a text message when there is gas leakage.

Kushal Nahata, CEO, RoboticWares noted that every year around 7000 people die of burns sustained due to fire caused by gas leak and related accidents. Most of the casualty are women or children.

“We are not doctors but engineers and decided to save these lives in our own way,” he said.

Talking about the opportunity for their solution in the Indian market and further innovations, Nahata said that six hundred million Indians now have access to mobile telephony; with SMS rates falling to less than a paisa, there are a lot of opportunities in the SMS information-alert service. Entertainment, retail, health care, education, banking etc are just a few of the sectors that have already started redefining the way information is shared.

As part of their future plans the company is looking forward for sales, service and installation partnerships. However, Nahata refused to divulge the business plans of the company, as the product has not been launched in the market yet.

In the consumer front, Nahata said, “We will try to be a volume player in this segment with lower margins so that the benefit of technology reaches the masses. At the same time a lot of R&D, maintenance and training costs for service personnel will be attributed to while we commercially launch it.”

They also plan to introduce customized solutions for industries, hotels etc.

Started in 2007 in their hostel rooms of KIIT University, RoboticWares today is registered Incubatee, under Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

KIIT Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is the Technology Business Incubator, supporting RoboticWares.
