American Express said in a statement the Centre would provide voice and

data-based customer services, fraud and risk modelling and financial processing.

It said the Centre will begin with "several hundred" full-time

employees, and had room to grow.

It did not indicate how much it will invest in the five-storey,

137,000-square-foot facility. American Express has been operating an accounting

and financial transaction processing Centre of its own in Delhi since 1995, and

has relied on third-party providers in four Indian cities to offer customer

services.

A growing number of global corporations are setting up or increasing their

back-office and customer support facilities in India, attracted by its

cost-effective and efficient workforce and infrastructure
