AMD launches new graphics card

BANGALORE, INDIA: US chip maker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), today introduced a new graphics card, AMD Radeon HD 6990, which it claims to be the fastest in the world.

Designed for the power gamer, the new card includes AMD’s second-generation, Microsoft DirectX 11-capable architecture, advanced image quality features for the best looking games. AMD Radeon also features AMD PowerTune intelligent technology to enable higher clock speeds and faster gaming, said a press release.

The card offers immersive HD gaming and computing with native support for up to five displays using AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology, with six display support possible.

A dual-BIOS toggle switch is the another feature of the new card, which allows enthusiast gamers to unlock the card and rev up the clocks and voltages to for more performance.

“Packing more raw performance than any consumer graphics card ever created, the AMD Radeon HD 6990 provides the latest for the ultimate gaming advantage,” said Matt Skynner, corporate vice president and general manager, GPU division, AMD.

He added that AMD PowerTune power management and AMD HD3D is so powerful that it can take on even the most demanding ultra-enthusiast tasks.

“The launch of AMD’s Radeon 6990, the fastest graphics card in the world is one more proof point of AMD’s technology and market leadership in the graphics arena which is increasingly driving the PC world,” said Ravi Swaminathan MD and VP, Sales and  Marketing, AMD South Asia.
