NEW DELHI: AMD has announced the general availability of its 1.1 GHz Athlon
and 750 MHz Duron processor-based systems in the Indian market. While the Duron
processor is targeted at the value conscious and price sensitive home user, the
Athlon is more for high-end computing in the corporate segment. Mumbai-based
Rashi Peripherals and Cel Infotech will sell systems based on these processors.
The 1.1 GHz Athlon is priced at $853 and the 750 MHz Duron comes for $181
each in 1,000 unit quantities. AMD is yet to decide the pricing for the Indian
market. However, according to Rashi Peripherals division head (Distribution)
Devendra Puri, the systems will be approximately priced between Rs 75,000 and Rs
80,000.
According to AMD’s authorized representative for India Ajay Kapure, the
company has lined up quite a few promotional campaigns for the channels.
"We will be conducting road shows, participating in exhibitions, organizing
dealer training programs, etc. in the next quarter."
AMD has recently launched an India specific Web site and plans to actively
promote itself from there. For starters, it has come up with the AMD &
Friends program. Customers who register for this program will receive the latest
product updates from AMD through the E-pal newsletter. There are also the
monthly online specials, where members can get good deals on IT products.
