AMD dual core processors in India

NEW DELHI: AMD India has launched its 64-bit, dual-core server and workstation solutions for enterprise users, to desktop and desktop-replacement notebooks for consumers and business users. For desktop PC users, AMD announced the new AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processor brand.

Several Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor-based systems were announced from a variety of vendors including Sun, HP, IBM, Wipro and HCL. According to the press release, Sun announced dual-core support for their entire current family of AMD64 technology-based systems. HP has launched the new HP ProLiant BL45p Blade Server and the dual-core HP ProLiant DL585 server. In addition, HP announced dual-core support for its existing AMD Opteron processor-based servers, blades and workstation.

The release further states that IBM is also capitalizing on the performance advantages contained in the new processors with the soon-to-be-available dual- core AMD Opteron processor-based IBM IntelliStation A-Pro Workstation and IBM eServer 326. HCL will soon launch its Infiniti Xcel line of servers based on the dual-core AMD Opteron processors. Wipro is planning to launch its Net Power series of servers based on the dual-core AMD Opteron processors in India shortly.

The dual-core AMD Opteron 800 Series is available immediately and the dual-core AMD Opteron 200 Series will be available in late May. AMD announced the AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor brand for dual-core desktop and desktop-replacement notebook processors. AMD is currently shipping samples of the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processors to leading OEMs worldwide and will officially launch in June 2005.

A broad portfolio of these multi-tasking processors will join the AMD Athlon 64 family and includes models 4800+, 4600+, 4400+ and 4200+ with the price based on performance at $1001, $803, $581 and $537, respectively, in 1,000-unit quantities.
