With computing power up to 2.72 TeraFLOPS, it effectively delivers twice the performance-per-dollar of the previous graphics products generations. Earlier, AMD had launched two cards, ATI Radeon HD 5870 and 5850, each with 1GB GDDR5 memory.

This new series allows computer users to enhance the computing experience with ATI Eyefinity multi-display technology and ATI Stream technology.

According to AMD's vice president – Sales and Marketing India, Ram Kumar, the India development team has played instrumental role in designing and developing this product.

“AMD's contribution to the world is that the world is becoming visual today. In India the gaming industry is taking up and we are partnering with Maya Entertainments and have signed MOU with FX Labs. From consumer to professionals, AMD technology is all over,” said Kumar.

While, AMD's core strength lies in CPU, ATI is leader in GPU. AMD had acquired ATI some year back, as a result this has given a clear edge to AMD in the graphics market - both consumer and professionals segment.

According to Richard Huddy, AMD's Worldwide Developer Relations Manager – GPU Division, the ATI Eyefinity multi-display technology allows connecting up to six monitors giving an immersive experience to users, whether it be gaming, productivity or entertainment.

While, ATI Stream technology is effective with industries using graphics cards for non-gaming purposes and tasks. “AMD is using Open industry standards such as OpenCL for cross-platform heterogeneous computing and flexibility. It benefits with better performance, visual and better computing experience,” said Huddy.

Also, with this new card the drag and drop feature in Window7 will be three times faster with GPU acceleration. It helps in Tessellation, OIT, Post-processing, HDR Texture compression, Shadows and accelerated Ray Tracing.

“Demands of videos and rich graphics have increased, enterprises have adopted remote graphics and virtualizations, heterogeneous computing is transforming landscape, these are some the recent trends in the industry. This has pushed the demand for more powerful graphics cards today,” said Anirban Chakravartti, AMD's director, Global Business Development – Professional Graphics.
