NEW DELHI, September 3 : Processor manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices
(AMD) has taken the first step towards opening an office in the country by
appointing a country representative. Although the company has not
announced this officially, it has taken on Ajay Kapure, previously Bombay
Area Manager with Avenet Max Ltd. an AMD distributor, as a consultant.
It is believed that when AMD gets permission to open an office, Mr
Kapure will be appointed country representative. Prior to Avenet Max, Mr.
Kapure was with ACI Ltd., distributors for Seagate. He has extensive
experience in the trade. Before Mr. Kapure, AMD was operating via its two
distributors--Avenet Max and BBS Electronics.
Currently, two AMD processor lines are available in the country. These
are the K6-2 for the entry-level market and the mid-range K6-III. The K6-2
is available in frequencies of 400 and 450 MHz priced at Rs 3,500 and
4,500, respectively. The 400 MHz K6-III sells for Rs 7,000.
