Amazon files for AmazonTube trademark amid feud with YouTube

In a bid to expand its Subscribe & Save feature into a full-fledged platform, Amazon has announced 'Subscribe with Amazon' that lets publishers and other digital creators sell digital subscriptions like streaming services, Headspace meditation, Dropbox Plus, as well as workout videos, online classes, meal plans etc directly inside Amazon’s platform.

It is a self-service enrollment platform and provides you with a simple way to subscribe and manage the subscriptions. You’ll also receive reminders, making it easy for you to instantly top-up the subscription plan you would want to continue.

"Over the years, Amazon has gained extensive experience in the memberships and subscriptions space, innovating across programs like Prime and Kindle Unlimited. Today, we’re excited to extend our selection by offering subscription businesses a self-service way to make their subscriptions available to millions of Amazon customers," said Lovina McMurchy, general manager of Subscribe with Amazon.

The service has been in development since last year and has been quietly live on Amazon’s site for some time. With the new program, any U.S.-based business can apply, provided said publisher is selling digital products, rather than physical goods.

Amazon will take a 30 percent cut of revenue in the first year, then 15 percent of all revenue earned after the first year. Those terms are identical to the ones offered by Apple’s App Store and similar to Google Play’s, which takes 15 percent in the first year and every year afterwards.
