Amazon intros RDS for SQL Server in VPS

BANGALORE, INDIA: Amazon introduces Relational Database Service (RDS) for SQL Server, which is now available in its Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)

"You can now use launch RDS database instances running Microsoft SQL Server inside of a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). You can now get all of the benefits of the Relational Database Service including backup management, automatic failure detection and recovery, software patching (both OS and database), and easy scaling, all within a private, isolated section of the AWS Cloud," says post on Amazon Web Services Blog.

Amazon also announced Global Start-Up Challenge and has started accepting entries for the sixth AWS Global Start-Up Challenge in four categories this year:

1.Big Data & High Performance Computing (HPC).

2.Gaming.

3.Consumer Applications.

4.Business Applications.

"There will be one Grand Prize winner in each of the four categories. Each of the Grand Prize winners will be awarded $50,000 in cash, $50,000 in AWS credits, one year of AWS Business Support, and four one-hour technical mentoring sessions from AWS."

Amazon Web Services also recently revealed the addition of a third availability zone in Tokyo, Japan.
