Amazon files for AmazonTube trademark amid feud with YouTube

The Amazon-YouTube feud doesn't seem to end soon. After blocking the YouTube app in Amazon Echo Show devices in September, the company brought back the app in early December. However, Google once again pulled off the plug.

In midst of all this controversy, Amazon has filed to get trademarks for AmazonTube and OpenTube which sound like rivals to YouTube. The trademark filing was first noticed by Philip Swan in his blog TV AnswerMan, which posted about it.

The filings description include a few things that suggest the trademarks to be a lot like YouTube such as “Providing non-downloadable pre-recorded audio, visual and audiovisual works via wireless networks on a variety of topics of general interest.” The trademark descriptions are pretty broad and include everything that YouTube does.

Domain Name Wire also reports that Amazon has even been registering related AlexaTube and OpenTube-related domains, which could be supporting evidence for Amazon's interest in starting its own service.

Amazon has already registered the domains such as AlexaOpenTube.com, AmazonAlexaTube.com, and AmazonOpenTube.com
