Amazon and Flipkart plan to go to sale in May 2020 or as soon as the Government allows the delivery of non-essential services in India.

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the Government has allowed the delivery of only essential commodities. This led to a sharp decline in the sale of non-essential commodities like electronics, clothes, etc. Several brands have asked Amazon and Flipkart to provide a sale as their stocks are huge and cash reserves low.

In this situation, Amazon and Flipkart plan to go on big sales in May 2020. This will happen once the government lifts the restrictions. They have asked brands to stock up as demand will be resurgent. Odisha has allowed e-commerce sites to deliver all products during the second phase of lockdown. Several other states are thinking on a similar line.

Amazon and Flipkart have provided inputs to governments and brands that consumers are currently searching for several non-food and grocery items These include smartphones, laptop, tablet, AC, refrigerator, washing machine, fan, printer, webcam, vacuum cleaner, television and other household products.

How much discount will be there?

Both the brands are known or their deep discounting sales. Several brands said that they will limit discounts during the proposed online sales period. Many brands have noted that the customers will purchase more out of necessity and not discretionary purchases.

Madhav Sheth is a CXO at Realme India. Even he said that the e-commerce platforms and brands have sales events planned for May. He further said that there may not be deep discounting. This is because of the supply chain disruption ever since the lockdown and stocks limitation. Many brands are grappling with supply chain issues. There is a stress on inventory as their production and imports are stuck.

The online shopping companies have also been on the prime of grocery delivery. They have cleared the backlogs and are taking new orders.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has suggested opening up of non-essential services during the second phase of lockdown “to improve the economic activity and provide liquidity in the hands of the people”.
