Newsweek's annual Green Rankings are one of the world's most recognized assessments of corporate sustainability and environmental impact. Newsweek evaluated companies on eight specific indicators, including conservation and sustainability efforts in the areas of energy, carbon, water, and waste productivity.

Company reputation was also taken into account in the ranking, and Altera earned highest marks in this area. Reputation was scored by a consultancy called RepRisk, which collects and analyzes controversies related to human rights violations, poor working conditions, corruption, and environmental destruction.

"Altera has always operated its business in an environmentally conscious manner, and strong efforts have been made by Altera's Facilities, Human Resources, and Corporate Social Responsibility teams to make our campuses greener," said Kyle Bowers, Altera VP of Reliability and Quality Assurance. "Altera works hard to maximize our sustainability efforts, and we continue to look for areas where we can institute even more positive changes and minimize our environmental impact."
