BANGALORE, INDIA: Claiming to launch FPGAs with the highest bandwidth, Altera Corporation revealed the 28-nm Stratix V FPGA family of offerings. Aimed at high-end functionalities like defense broadcast and healthcare markets, the new range features integrated 28-Gbps transceivers  targeting upto 100G systems.

The good news for developers is that Altera is releasing the necessary software 6 months before the shipping of the product. Speaking to CIOL, Gangatharan Gopal, country sales manager and office manager, India, said, "Altera's Stratix V range of offerings is aimed at extremely high end capabilities - speed and precision - in domains like security and healthcare. These domains demand complex programming and design. Altera has realised that it makes sense for us to release the relevant software to the developer ecosystem up to two quarters before the actual product shipping."

He explained further, "Developers now have enough time to start coding, create prototypes, and simulate their applications well ahead of the actual product shipping. We believe this can lead to innovation and out-of-the-box application development."
