Alok Ohrie quits AMD

BANGALORE, INDIA: Alok Ohrie, managing director of AMD India, is moving out of the company to join EMC, according to sources.

When CyberMedia contacted about his movement Ohrie said, “There are always a lot of speculations about such things and as a company policy we do not comment on them.”

Similarly, AMD spokesperson Deepanshu Sharma, GM—marketing and strategy, when contacted about Ohrie’s movement said, “They are just speculations and I am not at liberty to comment on the same.”

There is a lot of churning happening at AMD. Recently Haresh Bharia, director—distribution and sales, AMD India quit the company and last week the company announced the appointment of Sandip Naik as head—channel sales (India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal).

Alok Ohrie joined AMD in 2006 as the managing director of AMD’s India operations. Ohrie succeeded Ajay Marathe, who returned to AMD’s headquarters in Sunnyvale, California, USA.

Ohrie has over two decade experience in the technology industry. His career includes 13 years managing critical sales and marketing assignments for IBM in India, South Asia and Australia.

Earlier, Ohrie served as the director, Systems and Technology Group for IBM’s India and South Asia operations.

Ohrie has also worked with Wipro and ESPL. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electronics and communication from National Institute of Technology (formerly REC), Suratkal.
