Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniAccess 3500 NLG has the ability to integrate with encryption vendors like McAfee, enhancing the existing solution by enabling enterprises to oversee the security on their mobile laptops and the data they contain 24x7, regardless of the power state of the laptop, it said.

The nonstop laptop guardian leverages 3G wireless networks - CDMA, HSPA - allowing enterprises to manage and secure mobile laptops to the same degree as desktop computers are managed and secured today.

“With tens of thousands of laptops lost or stolen each year, it is important that customers have the most advanced solution available to protect their data,” said Shekhar Agrawal, director, enterprise and verticals, South Asia, Alcatel-Lucent.

He added the combination of the Alcatel-Lucent always on OmniAccess 3500 nonstop laptop guardian, along with McAfee endpoint encryption software, would allow enterprise IT managers to protect the lost and stolen laptops because of its strong encryption with remote capabilities and GPS location for laptop recovery.

The encryption software solution offers a number of additional features, including file and folder encryption, synchronized password changes and centralized management, it added.

“The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian provides a new dimension to enhancing the user authentication of McAfee Data Protection products,” said Frank Jorissen, vice president, international business development, McAfee’s Data Protection Business Unit.

“The NLG behaves as a remotely controlled ‘ignition key’ for laptops. When lost or stolen, a remote administrator can wipe critical user keys and force the laptop to reboot to the pre-boot logon screen, keeping all data totally beyond compromise,” he added.
