According to Dell’Oro, Alcatel-Lucent leads the IP digital subscriber line access multiplexer (IP DSLAM) market with a 2Q’08 market share of 32 percent. Alcatel-Lucent is also the clear leader in very high-speed DSL (VDSL) shipments, surpassing a 38 percent market share in terms of ports shipped in 2Q'08 - again more than threefold the number of shipments of Alcatel-Lucent’s nearest competitor in this field.

This market leadership goes hand-in-hand with a strategy of continuous product innovation and quality. In 2008, Alcatel-Lucent’s lead in innovation and mindshare has been underpinned by several innovation announcements:

· First on the market with VDSL2 module with 48 ports
· First with Smart DSL technology that improves IPTV performance over DSL
· First with a Digital Home Care solution, fostered now by the intended Motive acquisition
· Innovative and efficient FTTB architectures (ultra-compact access node, distributed DSLAMs and Virtual ONTs)
· First to introduce and deploy a scaleable GPON system with the broadest ONT family available and key customer wins

Luis Martinez Amago, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s fixed access activities, said: "Alcatel-Lucent is seen by customers as their partner for broadband access transformation, mastering a complete view on the options and on the implementation challenges, and increasingly being appreciated for its integration capabilities. With one out of three fixed broadband customers around the world served through an access network provided by Alcatel-Lucent, we are committed to support our customers’ network transformation projects.”

Alcatel-Lucent’s leadership in fixed broadband access builds to a large extent on the Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) family, an IP access platform that supports a flexible mix of future-proof access technologies (xDSL, GPON, point-to-point fiber) and a variety of network topologies (central office as well as remote architectures).

More than 190 service providers around the world have already selected the ISAM platform. Furthermore, Alcatel-Lucent is deploying more than 85 FTTH deployments, is present in every country which is engaged in FTTH and is the vendor of choice of most of the large scale FTTH projects.
