PARIS,FRANCE: Alcatel-Lucent has announced it has extended the reach of its mobile enterprise security solution for laptop computers as it is now available on the MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot from Novatel Wireless.

The MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot is a mobile broadband device that creates a personal cloud of high-speed Internet connectivity that can be easily shared between multiple users and Wi-Fi devices. Porting the award-winning OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian (NLG) solution to Novatel Wireless MiFi 2352 and 2372 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, extends the market reach of the solution by providing a USB interface and worldwide carrier availability, while decreasing the cost of entry for customers seeking a worldwide, always-on mobile security solution.

The combined offer makes the Alcatel-Lucent NLG the first enterprise application available on the MiFi device. "As the number of remote and mobile workers increases, organizations need to ensure they can securely track, manage and control laptops and the data they contain," said Michel Emelianoff, head of Alcatel-Lucent enterprise security.

"With the joint solution, organizations can economically extend their reach and control over mobile laptops, and protect assets and business critical information. Alcatel-Lucent continues to develop innovative solutions and creative ways to deploy them."

The Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 NLG technology acts as a type of remote ignition key for laptops, leveraging 3G networks, GPS (global positioning satellite) and an automatic VPN (virtual private network) to provide always-on remote management, protection, tracking and "remote kill" functionality even when the laptop is turned off or offline. By working with encryption and patch management vendors, NLG delivers 24/7 protection of corporate assets and information, and can instantly install security patches to remote laptops to combat threats.  This new enhancement builds on features from the updated NLG release 2.0, which include High Availability Gateway distribution, user-guided location-based services application (GeoLocator) and enhanced language support (addition of double-byte characters) to make it easier for the IT department to manage their mobile assets while increasing user productivity.
