NEW DELHI: Alcatel has announced that it has signed a contract with Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) for the delivery of Alcatel 1000 MM switching systems and associated network management solutions to deploy their NGN-ready fixed network. Alcatel’s solutions would enable VSNL to meet the increasing demand for voice and Internet services thereby optimizing investments and costs.

The integration of Alcatel’s switching systems would enable VSNL to become the first national and international long distance operator to deploy a NGN-ready transit solution in the country. Alcatel’s switching systems, deployed in seven locations across the country, would enable 60,000 additional trunk lines in first phase, thereby doubling the existing capacity of its network.

The Alcatel 1000 MM is a next generation switch designed to pave the way to next generation network solutions. This carrier-class solution allows operators to roll-out new value-added services and thus benefit from additional revenues.

Gérard Dega, executive vice-president for Europe, Middle East, Central Asia, Indian sub-continent and Africa, Alcatel added, "VSNL has provided us an opportunity to create yet another landmark in the Indian market by introducing and deploying NGN-ready solutions. This contract reinforces our leadership position in the country and positions Alcatel as a reliable supplier of state of the art telecommunications solutions".
