JAIPUR: Aksh Broadband Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to increase the scope of Gramdoot services in Rajasthan. The Gramdoot project presently provides rural convergence and e-governance facilities to over 176-gram panchayats in Jaipur district.

The Gramdoot project, till now being implemented in the district of Jaipur, would by 2005 be extended to cover 14 more districts in the state.

Gramdoots set up in these districts would provide a number of facilities like cable television, online computer education and entertainment apart from Internet access for villagers and medical information. To encourage the spread of entertainment facilities in the state, the government has exempted cable TV connections from entertainment tax.

Gramdoots would make the lives of the villagers much easier with a host of services. Regular trips to the district or tehsil offices for various forms would be a thing of the past. Problems faced by the villagers would be intimated to the district administration directly through the Gramdoot kiosks as well as the status of their complaints. Other services being offered by the Gramdoots include a single window for online complaints, mandi rates of various crops and railway and bus timetables.

Aksh Broadband currently operates India’s largest non-telecom fiber optic network spanning over 2,900 kms and covering 400-Gram Panchayats in Jaipur district.
