As part of this drive for expansion, the company also recently opened new offices in Israel (Tel Aviv), Germany (Hamburg and Dusseldorf) and Belgium (Brussels) and further strengthened its senior management team in the region covering key areas such as marketing, partner sales and product strategy.

Akamai is experiencing strong traction in its EMEA business and is therefore investing heavily to support this, both in terms of people and assets. To meet its customers' needs, the company has more than doubled EMEA employee numbers in the last 18 months, marking an increase of 150 per cent in personnel since the beginning of 2012.

Explains Mark Vargo, senior vice president and general manager, EMEA: "Today there is an unprecedented opportunity to harness the power of the hyperconnected era and accelerate innovation like never before," That opportunity can only be realised, however, by developing strategies that address the four key technology trends that have become imperatives for today's entertainment and corporate businesses - mobility, media, cloud and security. These are integral to the increasing business opportunities that we're seeing in the market and our expansion in the region is with the express purpose of capturing these opportunities and getting closer to our customers and partners here."

"However, each of these technology trends carries its own set of challenges," continued Vargo, "but all are essential to ensure a consistent, protected and rich experience for every user across every device wherever they are."
