Akai targets Rs 200 cr biz from mobile phones

NEW DELHI, INDIA: With its entry into mobile phone segment, Akai has set target revenue of Rs 200 crore within a period of one year.

“We plan to sell one lakh units of mobile phone per month and attain market share of three per cent. This will help us in getting business of Rs 200 approximately by July next year,” said Pranay Dhabhai, managing director, Akai India, after unveiling its new mobile phones.

Akai today unveiled 10 dual SIM GSM mobile phone models for Indian market with price starting from Rs 1895 to Rs 7995.

Akai is expecting an overall turnover of Rs 435 crore by July 2011 and mobile sales are expected to contribute around 40 per cent of the total revenues.

The company is also planning to enter in to the CDMA segment.

“We are developing four to five models to cater to CDMA segment as well. These phones should come in the market in another three to four months,” said Dhabhai.

Akai will use its existing retail network for selling mobile phones also. By the end of this month, the company has plans to increase the number of outlets to 20,000 from the existing 8000.
