Airtel Q2 net income up by 27 p.c.

NEW DELHI,INDIA: Bharti Airtel Limited, a provider in telecommunication services, today announced its audited US GAAP results for the second quarter and half year ended September 30, 2008.

The net income for the quarter ended September 30, 2008 was Rs. 2,046 crore, a growth of 27 per cent over last year, said a press release.

It reported a consolidated total revenue of Rs.9, 020 crore that grew by 42 per cent for this quarter and EBITDA of Rs. 3,699 crore showed a growth of 37 per cent on a year on year basis, the release said.

The company at present has a subscriber base of 7.99 crore subscribers with an increase of 57 per cent over the corresponding period last year.

It maintained its leadership position through an improved market share of all India wireless subscribers to 24.6 per cent from 23.4 per cent of the corresponding to the same period of last year, it added.

Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman and managing director, Bharti Airtel Limited, said, “With record customer additions every month, Airtel continues to consolidate its leadership position in the market.”

He added that the successful launch of DTH service has provided another opportunity to the brand to strengthen it’s connect with the customers, while generating a new revenue stream.

During the reporting quarter the company announced about its highest ever-net addition of 82.11 lakh customers in a single quarter, the release added.
