Airtel brings BlackBerry 8800 to India

NEW DELHI: Airtel and Research In Motion (RIM), manufacturer of wireless solutions, has launched BlackBerry 8800, the thinnest smartphone targeted at business executives, in India.

BlackBerry 8800 is quad-band and EDGE-enabled. It incorporates built-in GPS (Global Positioning System), a full QWERTY keyboard, trackball system for fast and intuitive navigation, a media player, and 64MB built-in flash memory expandable through microSD expansion slot for storing music and videos.

It also offers many proven features, including support for phone, email, text and instant messaging, web browser, organizer, multimedia, corporate data applications and more.

Norm Lo, vice president of Asia Pacific at RIM, said that the BlackBerry 8800 is the ideal mobile communications tool for India’s dynamic business environment and we are pleased to introduce this smartphone together with Airtel.

It features an ultra-bright, high resolution (320 x 240) landscape colour display. It incorporates light-sensing technology that automatically optimizes the screen, trackball and keyboard lighting for indoor, outdoor and dark environments. The BlackBerry Internet service allows users to access up to 10 supported personal and corporate email accounts.

The BlackBerry 8800, now available from Airtel, is priced at Rs 31,990.
