NEW DELHI: Aircel Limited leads the way in the Northeast India Circle to ‘connect the unconnected’.

Its late entry into the competition after Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s CellOne and Airtel has tapped the mobile market, seems to have little affect in to its market. Aircel has targeted the interior areas where CellOne connectivity is unavailable.

“Aircel is present in 60 per cent of the areas where even CellOne is not present. This is the reason they have the upper hand. They are targeting the unsaturated market where no other operator is present,” said one of the telecom retailer in Guwahati.

Aircel official admitted that they have been targeting the interior locations where the mobile connectivity has not been available. However, they denied that they have not been targeting the urban market. “We are targeting the urban market but our focus is more on connecting the rural market,” the official said.

With the last entry in to this market, Aircel has been successful enough to tap a major share of the subscriber base with the policy of connecting the unconnected.

This can be proved by the fact that in the Assam Circle as of November 2006-

Reliance subscriber base stands at 278274, BSNL -487555, Bharti –420940 and Aircel –396412. In the Northeast Circle the figures are Reliance Telecom -26697, Bharti Airtel-161466, BSNL -374095 and Aircel –207248.
