CALCUTTA: Agilent Technologies Inc., a global technological company, has

announced its acquisition of Digital Technology Inc. of Massachusetts and

Dynamic Digital Technology Private Limited of Calcutta. Both these companies,

which operate under Dynamic Technology Inc. (DTI), develop network-protocol test

solutions for network equipment manufacturers and service providers. Agilent is

an independent company formed after a realignment of Hewlett and Packard (HP).

"In fact, the search for such an acquisition by Agilent Technologies has

been worldwide and our decision to acquire DTI is with a vision to include a

progressively built talent base within our existing team. I have been

particularly impressed by the quality of communications and software developers

of the group," said Agilent VP and GM William Wood.

DTI currently focuses on multiple-protocol label switching (MPLS) and virtual

private network (VPN). As compared to the existing circuit-switched public

network, this technology will permit package-based networks with more

reliability and speed. As digital technology requires a lot of precision, the

role of test and measurement of Internet products become very crucial.

"The MPLS will speed up the flow of information through the Internet

with functionality similar to that of the central nervous system. The

advancement in the components would be in terms of better security and more

sophisticated protocols and testing facilities," said Digital Technology

president B Biswas. The main customers for DTI’s solutions have been the ISPs

and major communication networking companies like Cisco and Nortel.

Agilent Technologies (India) president Kewal Khanna said, "This

acquisition will draw attention to the world that India has a major R&D base

here in Calcutta, India. DTI will represent a strategic overall building block

for our entire network of operations throughout the world. As DTI will primarily

be a R&D center it will be in the frontline of all our basic research.

Taking account of all the changing functions we are providing our customers with

cutting edge network solutions. Our mission is to apply design, test and

measurement to help customers improve business results."

Agilent’s test and measurement business is the largest of its kind in the

world. The company is optimistic that the acquisition will enable delivery of

high quality test solutions to manufacturers and service providers to develop

and implement next-generation IP based products and services.
