What in your reckoning would be real IT highlights at your company?
It’s a new company and right now we are at project stages. Operations are yet to begin in full force. Needless to state, without IT projects can not go ahead. Plus, many other areas can be made better with IT. These include progress of site monitoring, project-site IT enablement, management visibility of site, taking real-time pictures and transferring the captured information to office cubicles. From projects to maintenance, a lot is happening with IT. We are going to be number one not only in power but in IT set-ups too.
Does that hint that IT would be a competitive differentiator?
Yes, definitely. It has a lot of potential in that context, especially in power sector. It includes heavy areas like generation, transmission as well as DCS (distributed control systems)
And that implies IT’s strategic significance. Is a CIO stronger at that level now?
There is definitely big alignment compared to previous set-ups. A drastic change is visible. Interface with business processes makes a lot of difference. IT is not just IT anymore; it’s aligned strongly with business.
How soon will IT scale up in your enterprise?
In early days there are many challenges that need immediate focus. Security, connectivity etc are some so first spotlight would be on LAN, WAN, security processes, and that we will continue to maintain. As agreements take progress, we will scale operations.
