MUMBAI: Allied Computers International (ACI) Pvt. Ltd., a notebook company, will foray into the manufacturing of notebook batteries. The company would set-up the facility in Gujarat. Hirji Patel, Managing Director, ACI said, "There is no competition in this segment right now. Also since OEM’s don’t even replace batteries of their notebooks, the situation becomes worse once the notebook is outdated or phased out. It’s a great opportunity for us".
It will invest around Rs 20 crore initially and as the market start picking-up, the investment would increase. ACI has not yet disclosed the price of these batteries but claims that these will be cheaper and affordable. The company is also expecting good margins from this venture.
The company has appointed Dimension Technology as its distributor for India and UK. It also has plans to extend its reach and in this process more distributors will be appointed shortly. The company will also appoint the resellers all across the country.
The company already has service centers for notebooks in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Service centers are also being set up in Ahmedabad, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Calcutta. Initially these service centers would be used to handle the battery business also. Service will also be available globally in Europe and US. This is one of the major initiatives the company has taken after setting up the wholly owned subsidiary in India.
