The economy recession has two different effects on information technology:

(1) the need of IT professionals to develop new skill sets more aligned to business changing needs, and

(2) the need of businesses to improve operational effectiveness and efficiency.

Continuing education and pursuing IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certifications have a positive impact on both, the IT professional who needs to develop business process skills and the business that needs to do more with less. But most of these certifications cost from $900 to $3,000 each. The new books developed by The Lean IT Group and are available at Amazon and Createspace.

Ana Cecilia Delgado, the author, is the president and CEO of The Lean IT Group, formerly with Siemens and PR Telephone Co. (now CLARO), whose IT background - in information technology infrastructure, information security, IT strategic planning and business and IT alignment - empowered her to develop accredited courses for self-study in ITIL, thus providing affordable ways to get certified.

Delgado said: "Most of IT professionals are very good at managing technology but trying to deliver value to the business without aligning and 'gearing' every level of technology is not possible anymore due to the growing dependency of business' operations on technology. The business executives expect good performance from IT; it is therefore essential integrating the technology component with the people and process components to contribute to business objectives and meet their expectations. That is what ITIL is about."

The print books costs from $89 to $125 and kindle versions are available for $75 or less. While there are many books providing ITIL knowledge, The Lean IT Group's publications are accredited courses adapted for self-study ensuring nothing is left to prepare for the associated certification.
