BANGALORE: Acer India would soon be considering re-opening its call center in Bangalore. This would depend on the business growth of its Consumer Product Group, launched last year. The company had a call center in Bangalore when it launched its operations in 1999. It also has a call center in Taiwan and one in every major market across the world.

"When we initially launched the call center the calls that we received were extremely low. Our focus was on Enterprises. The service support that we extend to our customers was through our partners and that took care of our customer’s support requirements and hence we closed down the service. After launching our Consumer Product Group, we would consider of opening it again. There might be a need in the future. But at this moment there is no concrete plan for it," said, WS Mukund, Managing Director, Acer India.

The Consumer Product Group contributes roughly 30 per cent to the company’s revenue, which is expected to in the range of Rs350 to Rs400 crore for the financial year 2003-04. It launched its home PC, the popular Aspire series in the country and has sold almost 6,000 units in the past one year. TFT monitors, projectors are some of the other products that Acer had launched in India in the past one year. Some convergent technology products and a LCD television are also being probed.

"The Consumer Product Group of Acer India is gaining momentum and 2004 will witness a lot of push catering towards the segment. We launched our first retail store in the country in Bangalore and plan to open 50 outlets by March,’ added Mukund.
