NEW DELHI: Acer Communication and Multimedia (ACM) has launched a new CD
writer (CDRW) to cater the needs of large data storage and high speed CD
writing. Acer has introduced Seamless link, a new technology that eradicates
buffer under-run, the principal cause of failure when using a CD writer to burn
a compact disk (CD).

Buffer under-run is caused by an interruption in the flow of data to the disk
during the writing process.

Seamless Link includes a new link insertion technology that limits the
discontinuity between recorded links on the disk and ensures that they can be
read correctly. Coasters are created because buffer under-run renders the CD
unreadable.

Traditional CD writer drives come with a memory buffer to help guard against
breaks in the data stream. Only when the interruption is long enough to empty
this buffer - buffer under-run - does the disk become unreadable. But large
buffer memory is not the answer. The reliance on large and expensive buffer
memory has failed to keep pace with demand for high speed CD writing.
