BANGALORE: Acer has unveiled its new series of servers, Altos G500, Altos
G610 and Altos R500 targeting small, medium and large enterprises.
The Acer Altos G 500 (AA G500) is a dual-processor server platform supporting
the DDR SD RAM. The AA G500 is targeted at the SME segment (100 - 200 users).
Applications can range from enterprise applications, to e-Business
implementations, to remote office automation. These servers retail at a sub - Rs
1 Lakh end-user price point, in the base configuration.
According to Acer India general manager-marketing S Rajendran, " Acer is
now gearing to offer products to the SME segment after its success in the
banking, finance and oil sectors. Here, we are aggressively positioned to offer
value for money, reliability, scalability and robustness - the key parameter for
closing purchase decisions." Acer ensures better performance and features
and shows rampant redundancy and fault tolerance features, he added.
The Acer Altos G610 (AA G610) is again a dual-processor platform for SME and
medium-sized corporate organizations (150 - 250 users) looking for a platform to
run their enterprise applications and e-Business initiatives. It is also
targeted at large corporate organizations looking for application servers. For a
base configuration the server would be available at sub - Rs 1.25 lakhs.
The Acer Altos R500 is a 1U server targeted at environments requiring
high-density platforms, like the application servers in the Internet arena (ISPs
and ASPs), load balancing servers in server farms (iDCs), and front-end servers
for e-Business applications. The base configuration would be available at sub -
Rs 1.5 Lakhs. With its support for dual processors, including the Pentium III -
512K family, the AA R500 is ideal for iDC and ASP environments, as well as for
front-end functioning in e-Business implementations of large corporate
organizations.
