Aadhaar card enrolment recorded at 99 pc in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH, INDIA: With the Aadhaar enrollment at its peak in every state, the enrolment of Aadhaar card in Union Territory of Chandigarh is recorded at 99 percent and in Himachal Pradesh; it is recorded at 88.6 per cent.

"The enrolment figure under the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) scheme in Punjab and Haryana is 62.9 per cent and 30.1 per cent respectively so far," a PTI report quoted Keshni Anand Arora, UIDAI, Deputy Director General (Northern Region) as saying.

In Chandigarh, as many as 10.43 lakh people out of a total population 10.55 lakh have been covered under the UIDAI scheme, added Arora. Out of 2.77 crore people in Punjab, 1.74 crore have got their Aadhar card, claims Arora.

Except for Mansa and Tarn Taran districts, the Aadhaar enrolment in Punjab has been above 50 per cent. Ambala and Sonepat have reported more than 50 percent coverage under the scheme. UIDAI will impose a penalty of Rs. 500 on the agencies, in case of any delay in uploading the data.
